Castle Birdsong: This is one of three NSDAP Castle Schools under construction in 1934 to train future NS Party leaders. Birdsong was built in the center of a forest and that probably explains the pastoral name. This modern photo shows the opposite side of the castle shown on the badge. The castle is now sitting in the center of the National Park Eifel and is open for guided tours to the public.
The Ordensburgen only accepted the top graduates of the NPEA and Adolf Hitler Schools after their primary
education and RAD labor Service or service in another NSDAP organization. The
Ordensburgen were located in four castle like schools at
Crössinsee, Vogelsang, Sonthofen, and Marienburg. Each school accepted 1000
students, had a staff of 500, and a specific NS curriculum. Students were to
attend between one year to eighteen months before graduating. The program never reached its full term because of the war.
