The present day Galgenbergturm, the former "Hitler" Tower
The Gallows Mountain Tower is the main symbol of the municipality of Spiesen-Elversberg. It was built from 1937 to 1939 at the time of the Third Reich and inaugurated on July 8, 1939 as the Adolf-Hitler-Tower. After the war, it was renamed the "gallows mountain" Tower, because it stands on this 356 meter hill overlooking the town where criminals were hanged in antiquity.
The abstract silhouette of the tower is the newly designed logo of the municipality since 2007.
From the 17 meter high tower, there is a perfect view of the town. You can see the Black Mountain Tower in Saarbrücken, the foam mountain in Tholey, and even to France. The Gallows Hill is now a recreation area with a playground and a huge 2000 m² garden with 15 varieties of roses.
