15th WSS Latvian Grenadier Div CT: This SS tab came direct
from the daughter of the vet who got it from Dachau concentration
camp. Black wool base glued and sewed over a shellaced buckram
stiffener, tab measures 55 x 40 mm, German made, right side,
machine embroidered insignia, the little loop
on one of the flames (not pulled through to the back side) is
a commonly seen flaw on this tab when not cut off by a collector,
blacklight tested, unissued, near perfect condition.

The Waffen-SS Grenadier-Division (lettische
Nr.1), filled by Latvian volunteers and conscripts, was formed in
February 1943. Because they were non-German they were not allowed
to wear the SS rune collar tab. Instead they wore a blank tab until
March 1943 when a swastika tab called the Latvian Fire Cross
was introduced for wear.
