Lotsanflagge 250: The Harbor pilots flag was
flown on Kriegsmarine vessels to indicate that the ship had a
qualified local self-employed civilian harbor pilot aboard. Skilled harbor pilots made sure
a ship was brought into port following all safety regulations. Each ship in the navy had a pilot flag in the flag locker for use when the harbor pilot came onboard. Single sided, silk screened, 250 x 150 cm (approx 5x8 feet), for escorting huge ships of 1500 tonnes and up; canvas left edge, zinc D-ring sewn to top of rope, cloth maker tag: Bonner Fahnenfabrik Bonn am Rhein; cardstock tag with grommet shows catalog number, name, and size; a flag this large was destined for a large port like Hamburg; very rare, unissued, perfect colors, like new condition.
