NSDAP Party Membership Pin - M1/164: Before 1938, the population of Gablonz was 86% German. In May 1945, the town was captured by the underground anti-Nazi groups together with some 700 French and Italian prisoners of war.
Between 1945 and 1949, most of the Germans were forcibly expelled under the terms of Beneš decrees. Today only about 1,000-2,000 Germans out of a population of 45,000 still live in the city. The former Sudetenland was returned to the Czech Republic after the war. The moral of the story is if you start a war don't lose it.
