The Arch of the Fileni: The reverse features the Feleni Arch ordered built by Mussolini on the border of Libya and Tripolitania. It was unveiled on March 16 1937 in a lavish night ceremony attended by Benito Mussolini.
Left: The Arch of the Philaeni in March 1937. Right: German tanks of the Afrika Korps cross the Arch in March 1941 to start the Axis counter-offensive in Cyrenaica. The arch was demolished by dynamite in 1973 by the revolutionary leader Muammar Gaddafi, who considered the landmark as a sign of the Italian domination of Libya.
