Hamburg Cross

A private purchase piece officially
called the "Deutsches Feld-Ehrenzeichen," made in Hamburg,
the piece commemorated service in WW1. It was popular
from 1931-35 as it denoted war service without requiring membership
in other veteran organizations. Sometimes seen worn on early
SA and early SS uniforms but not popular with the Stahlhelm,
Kyfhauserbund, and Reichskriegerbund, subsequently banned in
November of 1935. Three piece construction, plated, fire guilded,
and enameled tombac, two rivets, 64x53 mm, small chip in bottom
arm of cross, polished back, overall moderate wear.
